The other evening just after sunset, I sent Zach on a errand to his Papaw and Mamaw's house( we live adjacent to my Dad & Mom- within walking distance and the area is well-lit with 1 night-watchman light and a security light). Zach was excited to go on this errand until he realized how dark it had gotten. As we walked toward the corner of our house(flashlight in his hand), I encouraged him, " Zach, just walk in the light and you have nothing to be afraid of.." But where does Zach choose to walk? He chooses to walk in the path where there is darkness. I quickly call out to him through his complaining, "Zach, where did I tell you to walk son? I told you to walk in the light-not in the darkness!" After realizing his error he quickly scampers into lighted area of the yard and on to his destination.
God's Word tells us that "God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin." (1st John 1:5b-7)
As we prepare our hearts and minds for this upcoming week, may our walk be bright enough to lead others to a closer relationship to Christ and to each other.
