At Zach's bedtime the other night, he was having a difficult time going to sleep. He said, "I keep having bad thoughts." I prayed with him, as is the norm but he continued to be tormented by those "bad thoughts" . As I talked to him, I tried to get him to quote a scripture passage such as "fear not; for I am with thee..." (Gen.26:24), and talked to him about "grabbing hold" of a scripture- just as if you were in the water drowning and someone threw you a life preserver and you reached out for it, grabbed hold of it and used it for it's intended purpose. " If you don't reach out, grab it and use it" I told him," you will drown ."
In that moment, God spoke to my own heart. How many times throughout the week do we find ourselves drowning.....drowning in this ol' sin-sick world, drowning with worry, with doubt or our own SIN and we don't reach out to God's word?
Jesus says in Matthew 11:28 , " Come unto me all who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest."
Wonderful words to grab hold of............
